Amersham & Wycombe College today opened its new Environmental Training Centre at the Chesham Campus. The opening ceremony was performed by Doug Stewart of DGS Construction Ltd. Click here to download his speech.
Guests included College Governors and local headteachers, as well as
representatives from the local authorities, SEEDA, Milton Keynes Womenbuilders,
City & Guilds, BCUC, Milton Keynes College and Oxford & Cherwell Valley College.
The new facilities include:
• A rain water harvesting unit
• A ground source heat pump
• An underfloor heating area
• Solar thermal panels
• A demonstration photovoltaics unit
Jill Rowell, the College’s Head of Engineering & Construction, comments:
“This is an important landmark for one of the most exciting and innovative
training projects in the South East in recent years. A national report this week
suggests that many UK residents would like to live and work in a more
environmentally friendly and energy efficient way, so this Centre could not be
opening at a more opportune time. The centre will be used for the training of
professional installers, delivery of general environmental awareness courses for
the public and to enhance the current curriculum of students already attending
the College. Our briefing event for local residents last November, and
consultations with local employers, revealed a high level of local interest in
the subject of sustainable building."
